Display Player features
What the player does on game night, page by page. It runs on a Windows PC in the booth, reads the console you already own, and every control page opens in a browser. Each venue’s build carries the parts that venue needs; ask us which edition fits yours.
Layout editor
Layouts are built and changed in the browser, on the player itself. There is no separate designer program and nothing to copy between PCs.
- Layers, with every text or number bound to a live data field: score, clock, period, down and distance, lane times.
- A timeline and storyboard for animated boards; takeovers for starting lineups, score celebrations and timeout cards.
- Ad groups (rotating sponsor boxes) and game triggers built into the layout.
- Tag layouts by sport so the board switches by itself when the console changes sport; set the layout that loads at start-up.
- Build options import Designer and LedPlayer .lay files, Photoshop .psd designs and Daktronics .vmpl presentations, and play Colorado Time Systems DisplayLink+ templates.
Live console data
The board reads the console your crew already uses. These are the consoles and feeds the player decodes:
| Daktronics | All Sport 5000 (RTD over serial or UDP, MDP, CG); All Sport Pro, including player stats and rosters; OmniSport 2000 for swimming, diving and water polo; RC-100 tennis remote |
|---|---|
| Fair-Play | MP-70 on RS-232, MP-80 wireless, the board RS-485 feed, HS-80 |
| Colorado Time Systems | System 6, Gen7 (direct or through its hub), MultiSport, and the wireless water polo table-top controller |
| OES | Multi-sport scoring consoles |
| Nevco | Reads the XML file Nevco’s scoring software writes |
| Electro-Mech | Laird wireless or RS-232 |
| Sportzcast | SCOREBOT, in front of the console it reads |
| Swimming and diving | Hy-Tek Meet Manager start lists, results and team scores; Dive Live diving scores; Swiss Timing |
| Track and race timing | Lynx ResulTV (FinishLynx and others), ALGE, Ares / IST, Quantum |
| Cricket | NV Play |
| No console | The scoring app on iOS, Android or Windows; the manual control panel on the Data page; keyboard shortcuts |
Two inputs can share one board: a Fair-Play MP-70 can run the game clock and play clock while a tablet scores the rest. The Data page checks the chain one link at a time (cable, port, console sending, data understood, game moving) and says which link to fix. A live JSON feed of every field is available for broadcast graphics.
Video outputs
- The board goes out on any monitor output to the LED processor, and a NovaStar processor is found automatically.
- Build options add NDI, Blackmagic DeckLink, AJA, Matrox SDI and ST 2110 outputs, and Spout (Windows) or Syphon (macOS) to hand the board to a graphics or streaming system.
Live camera inputs are not part of the standard editions. Tell us what your camera or production switcher sends and we’ll tell you what a build can take.
Clips and stingers
- The Show page gives the operator one tap-to-fire tile per clip, grouped in tabs by sport or by moment.
- A clip plays over the whole board, or in a playback zone inside the layout, then the board returns.
- The Clip Editor trims, crops, adds sound and renders, so clips are sized for the board.
- Score-driven triggers fire a graphic by themselves: a score, a period change, the clock at zero, a timeout.
Sponsor rotation
- Ad groups rotate several sponsor images in one box, with a hold time per slide.
- Sponsor boards and takeover layouts for full-screen sponsor moments.
- On-demand sponsor cards on the Show page, such as “this quarter brought to you by…”
- A proof-of-play page lists what ran, how often, for how long and when, with CSV export.
Meet Manager and aquatics
- Lane times and places come straight from the timing console: Colorado Time Systems System 6 or Gen7, Daktronics OmniSport 2000, or Swiss Timing.
- Swimmer names, results and team scores come from Hy-Tek Meet Manager, using its standard scoreboard keys on the Run screen.
- Start lists are remembered per heat, so names come up by themselves when the console reaches a heat already sent. A whole session can be loaded at once from a start-list export.
- Diving scores from Dive Live; water polo from the CTS water polo controller.
LedPlayer compatibility: RocketEffects, Designer and ScoreBug
Built with LedPlayer compatibility, Display Player speaks the LedPlayer protocol. RocketEffects, Designer and ScoreBug find it on the network, send it layouts, fire them and stream values to it, the same way they drove LedPlayer, and Designer .lay layouts import. A venue can move to the new player and keep its booth routine.
LedPlayer compatibility is a build option on every scoreboard edition. Sign builds do not carry it.
Remote support through our agent
PCs that run Display Player usually also run our remote agent, a small background program that lets support help without a trip to the venue. Support can see the screen, read the player’s logs and pages, check which serial port the console is on and whether it is talking (without taking the port from the player), check the NovaStar processor, and update the player with an automatic roll-back if the new build does not come up.
The agent will not close a running show unless the request is explicitly confirmed.
NovaStar processor integration
- The Screens page finds the NovaStar processor’s output by its EDID and keeps the board on it.
- Runs on NovaStar Taurus media players as well as on Windows and macOS PCs.
- Our support agent scans for NovaStar processors and checks the wall remotely.
- Build options: a processor page with the cabinet layout, receiving-card monitoring and screen-file upload.
And the rest
- Schedules and team rosters, with MaxPreps import on school builds.
- Audio: output device, master volume, horn and buzzer.
- A pre-game checklist with “Lock for the game.”
- Sunrise and sunset dimming on sign builds.
- Each build is licensed to the venue’s own PC and carries its own help page.
